Breakdown cover etc
Breakdown cover etc
Just wonder if its worth having a principle that when people turn up for rides they either have breakdown cover or are happy to push their bike home if it breaks down. Personally I'm often happy to help a fellow biker with a breakdown, help them get home or escort a limp home - it makes an adventure of it (and reminds me fondly of biking in the early 80s when someone almost always broke down), but other clubs I've ridden in have this principle in place so people at least consider that they might get stuck 100s of miles from home. The other useful principle is having a roadworthy machine that's unlikely to break down. Just a thought - can see the pros and cons. Perhaps a friendly reminder rather than a rule as such

Re: Breakdown cover etc
That's a good point, thanks for bringing it up.
The Rideout Ts&Cs, these will be linked to from each rideout event topic, cover most things. However, this scenario isn't covered aside from your machine needing to be road legal.
Whilst I'm not going to make recovery insurance a pre-requisite for attendance I will point out that what help can be offered at the roadside by the group is likely to be limited. In most circumstances just making sure that the rider has a phone signal and is able to arrange recovery. Attendees should ensure that, in case of breakdown or accident, they have the means to get home, be it a mate with a van, suitable roadside assistance cover or the means to cover the expense of calling out a local garage.

I agree also.
Fundamentally I think you should prepare for a group ride in the same way that you would prepare as if setting out solo. If that means without breakfown cover, then it is your own personal risk.
As Charlie often says at the start of a ride, It is also important you ride at your own level of ability....which is why the drop off sysyem works well.
