Woody

Post by Woody »

Hi I am Michael Wood (Woody), ride around 1000 miles per month and do al lot of long 3 to 5 weeks tours with my brother in law we tend to plan several years ahead.

Only moved to the area (Ross on wye) at the start of covid so my knowledge of the area is basic, I am retired so can ride out most days. Not insured for Pillion nor at present do I carry pillions mainly as I smashed my pelvis 10 years ago .

Started riding a Triumph 650 in the 70's a 66 plate which I restored aged 16, been through modern triumphs such as T100 / Tiger 950 / Ducati multistrada 950 and V2s and now onto a multistrada V4S see attached

Hi Woody

Interesting that you started on a '66 Triumph. I still have my '66 Bonneville which I bought in '83 (seemed old then but I've had it for more than 2/3 of it's life). Like you, my first bike (BSA Bantam) came as a box of bits which I rebuilt, aged 16 (that soon gave way to a Triumph Tiger 90 which then led to the Bonnie).

Well and truly envious of your V4 Multistrada too (a mate is planning to ride to Australia via Africa, 2-up on one of those - Ducati were talking about sponsoring him).

Look forward to riding with you

Ducan

Mine was a 66 ---- with single carb --- it was marked as a 6T --- came with Watsonian side car and nascelle head light from the bath tub era . I think it was Triumph using parts from one cross over period to another. So I stripped it and turned it into a Bonny look a like but with single carb in fairness the single carb was way easier to work on.

I ditched the side car

I bought it aged 16 as you could ride one with sidecar whilst learning --- before that 1 had 2 x Honda 90 sports and one billy bantam I think 175 ?

Still miss the triumph

Yeah I love the 650 Triumph. Mine had been cafe racered when I got it but fitted a standard seat and tank. Kept the home made rearsets and linkages and put alloy rims on. Also went for single carb when i blueprinted it - much easier to keep in tune and still went very well with the mods I did (Thruxton inlet cam, 3134 exhaust (for good breathing but decent torque and efficiency), porting, in-line micronic oil filtration, spraybar to lube the exhaust cam, match balanced pistons and rods, matched compression ratios, balanced crank etc.

Yeah I assumed you had a chair on when you said you had it at 16. I nearly bought a Tiger 90 with a chair but went for the Bantam (1971 B175 which had seized its crank - seems weird now that it was only 6 year's old then) instead then the solo T90.

Those were the days.....

Look forward to swapping notes.
